“Did I Scare You?” by Jacob Haupt

IMG_1187.JPG

Jacob Haupt is a photographer from Salt Lake City, Utah, who created a collection of playful horror photographs with a little help from his daughter, Talia and his wife, Evelyn.

We all agree that his love for horror genre film is prominent in his project. However, a little spin towards playfulness gives the images more ‘oomph’ and a unique sense of humor.

“The project began as a game between my daughter and myself where we would try to scare one another in playful ways. Later the series evolved into a way to share my love of all things horror with my daughter who is extremely interested but isn't allowed to watch all the movies just yet.”

Before the shoot, Haupt usually starts by sketching his idea out. Then sit on it to see whether he is still excited about the idea. If the idea sticks, he collects the material, costumes, and create props and out he goes. We love the contrast between the horror genre conventions and his own take on ‘horror’. He chooses colorful palette, strong flash and add his playful nature into the images. He’s able creates such strong characteristics in his project that will stick with you for quite sometime. Well? Did he scare you?
