“Lost in China” by Noppadol Maitreechit

“Lost in China,” a project from Noppadol Maitreechit, a chef who fell in love with photography. He first started photography as a hobby but grew fond of it as a way to express himself.

“It didn’t started as a project,” Noppadol admitted. However, after he visited China twice he found that the images really speaks to him not merely recordings of memories but after seeing the images altogether the word ‘Lost’ came to his mind. He felt lost in the culture, ways of living, and its beautiful mysterious charms. “I was trying too hard during my first trip. I was only looking for something strange or a subject or something to make a strong photo but I only got 3 or 4 photos that actually worked.” He wanted to make this series into a photo book so he went back again. Noppadol calls himself ‘a beauty addict,’ when he finds something beautiful he shoots, and that was exactly what he did the second time.

He’s able to capture each moment through unique color pallets, lights, shadows and compositions. He let himself go and really be ‘lost’ in its trance; the images strings along flawlessly like a poetry. Going through the book is a substitute high for our traveling spirit.
